Velerus, only after having dropped joltingly to new ground, was surprised at the suddenness and yet smoothness of the short ride to their next destination. It had been like being pleasantly swept of his feet and then the feeling during the momentary journey was that of floating weightlessly on a wave, like a dream. But then the landing was as abrupt as the taking off, and the beauty of the transportation was soon ended but not forgotten. Unlike Riley, although he was no doubt more used to these means of travelling than him, or anyone such as himself, his feet were rooted into the ground as soon as his toes touched down. It was as if the land had been waiting for him, and long intended to keep him here until a purpose had been well and truly fulfilled.
A glimmer of a pleased smile crossed his face as fresh surroundings instantly warped into view around them. They seemed to be on a mountain - he wondered if it was actually the undeniably gusty wind and snow that had knocked Riley off his feet - greyish plants lay thick all about them atop the umber rock, indiscernible under a thick blanket of snow, though he wasn't sure it kept anything that might be growing here none too warm. The looming approach of the summit rose jaggedly above them; sheer rock and descendable mountain face both tumbled far below them. They had fortunately, or perhaps not, landed in between, on a snowy, moreover flat ledge. To reach the ground below, where surely any wars would be raging, where any travellers would be walking or wandering, there was forest thick to penetrate. In places, hazy steam rose up and swirled around in the wintry breeze of the air. His mind was driven to wonderment, and without waiting for Riley though muttering low to him to follow, he began to step surefootedly down the small hill and onto the nonexistent path of the mountain.

His nose hurt a bit, as he had fell on the floor, hitting the cold snow with the tip of his nose. It stung... quite a lot. He stayed down for a moment, eyes closed, feeling the need to cough up blood but then the feel just vanished. Maybe it was his imagination? It did run wild after every time he teleported using Aura.
Slowly, Riley opened his eyes as well as pulling away from the white snow, sitting back on his legs. Navy eyes looked around, seeing mostly ivory colours, but seeing ash grey plants beneath a cover of snow above them. He stood up, feeling himself shiver as the cold temperatures forced through to his skin. He frowned a bit, casting his gaze elsewhere, and saw Velerus, his ally. The eighteen year old immediately went back to studying their surroundings, tilting his head back and watching the mountain summit warily. Sure, he may have lived at the bottom of a mountain in Eorzoa, but now, now he just felt different. The mountain was different than the one he used to live by. It may have just been the fact that it was taller, or just colder.
Riley's deep cerulean eyes flicked to his ally as soon as a low mutter was spoken. The Eorzoan hume tilted his head a bit, before realising what the mutter meant. He was to follow Velerus down the mountain. He would protest - preferring to go his own way and perhaps explore his surroundings - but he did not wish to leave his ally alone. The other male had said to him that he was weak, and that he hadn't faked the alliance. He blinked slowly, watching as the pale skinned man made his way down a small slope, stepping onto a path that was there, just invisible.
Blinking a few times, Riley sighed and flicked his foot, ridding the boot of the snow that settled upon it, before turning slightly and placing a hand on the wall for support then immediately flinching. It was freezing. He wasn't that used to the cold! Riley shivered, keeping his hand on the wall, forcing himself to keep it there as he followed the footsteps in the snow left by Velerus. "L-lead the way..." He hadn't meant to stutter, but... well, an icy breeze had caught the young man in it's flow, causing him to shiver and his teeth to chatter, resulting in the stutter.
Honestly, how could some people survive out in the freezing snows?!

Velerus' icy skin of course greeted the wind and made no change in him, the snow falling flat against his bare hands and face as it would against equally hard, white stone, and resting there, forming whiter specks on his pallity. But he heard the juttering in the boy's frozen voice and could not supress a smirk as he turned to see him apparently weakened by the chill; he was reminded again of the feebleness of humans. His eyes then flickered to the footprints his carelessness had left behind - a faint, triangular shape and a sharp, thin heel. He began to walk off again, but this time without even the slightest crunch in the snow, going as lightly as if his body had no weight. Mainly this was to leave no trace of himself behind, just in case, but it was also his first bash at arousing envy or maybe admiration in his near-human accomplice.
It was only a few metres down the steep slope that, after a short and vertical drop, cushioned by withering grey grasses, he entered the trees. Wide, canopied trees they were, with pale, thin trunks and wide, fanning branches bunched with yellowish leaves. There were also wide pines with several overhead branches, not too unlike the shorter deciduous plants in their shape and peculiarity, but darker in colour, and sweeter smelling. However the scenery was not otherwise entirely surprising and soon he forgot about the appearance of the mountain forest and took to scanning every uneven aisle of trees, his sharp eyes peering into the thick undergrowth, greener here, unless it was for the shadow, and near unspeckled with the white disease of the eternal winter upon the ridge.
The forest, abundant in foreign squarkings and the low bumbling of insects and mammals, might have seemed a strange place for Velerus' friends to be sought out in; but he was desperate to have his hands on them. The sneaking, conceited travellers they were - especially the fair pointy-ear - it would not be surprising if they were sneaking through this thick tangled jungle.

Narrowing eyes a bit against the cold, Riley could feel his body starting to get used to the freezing temperatures of the mountain. Luckily his body could adjust quickly. However, everything hurt more before it started to get used to everything. The eighteen year old looked down at the floor, seeing rather faint footprints of his own. A small smile came to his lips as he remembered how light he was, therefore not creating very deep footprints. He suddenly shivered, feeling a drop of snow on his cheek and he shook his head a bit, messing up his black hair.
Looking up slowly, the male saw that Velerus had started to walk as if he was weightless, like he was floating. He smiled a little bit, liking how his ally was careful on his feet... but he could not stop the sudden rush of wariness in his body and the quiet whisper in the surrounding area, though only allowing the black haired eighteen year old hear it.
"Pfft.. Look him, Riley... He's obviously up to something... He changed the way he steps as if he was going to go murder some people! It may even be YOU! In order to keep alive, you. should. kill. him. fir-"
Cutting the words off with a sudden growl as he jumped off a small ledge, not noticing the forest in front, and pushing the weird voice out of his head - who was, no doubt probably trying to get Riley to murder Velerus - but then eighteen year old shivered as he almost bumped into his pale skinned ally and stepping back slightly. Maybe the dark... side was right. Maybe... He flinched a bit, not really wanting to be manipulated by the... evil half's calm, dark toned voice (which was also a bit seductive). The thing was going to try and make Riley kill his ally by persuasading him, perhaps by repetition, seduction or even making him just snap and just kill the pale skinned humanoid to get rid of the voice...
As he looked around with his deep cerulean eyes, Riley saw that the forest was rather green, and thick, and wild. The eighteen year old blinked, feeling that his body was now suited for the environment, and he gently tapped Velerus on the shoulder, tilting his head a bit and putting on an accidental innocent look. "So... Your friends... You said that they'll be here, most likely, so I think I should know a bit about them..." He trailed off, blinking a couple of times, suddenly wishing that the quiet hum in his mind would go away and leave him be. A small smile slipped it's way onto his face as he waited for an answer from Velerus, surprised at his own courage to ask his ally about that. Normally, he'd just not say anything at all - well, not until he knew this person a little bit better...

Velerus stopped his scouring of the forest abruptly as his ears caught the low growl that seemingly came from behind him. He turned his head, frowning, but only to see Riley bounding towards him and then backing up slightly as he came within millimetres of collision. He turned back, apparently dismissive. Grief. Perhaps Riley was a werewolf or other animalistic person - thinking back, he had certainly shown just enough beastiality to prove that if it were so. But it was an even more displeasing and unattractive thought... Yet unlikely.
He turned his head again when Riley tapped him on the shoulder, but carried on walking, as lightly as before. It hadn't struck him, his careful-footedness, as being something that might arouse suspicion of bad intent in his young ally. But of course, he was unaware too of the other's thoughts.
"You wish to know of my friends?" he raised his eyebrows again, and turned his head to the path. "What is there to say..." It was not a question, at least not for Riley, but it made Velerus think... He should give Riley the worst impression of his 'friends' he could muster without making it downright obvious that they were actually nothing of the sort...
"We are little more than aquaintances, certainly not intimate... They are perhaps a little prejudiced, particularly against me. Make sure you don't behave too vicious, dear boy... They're quite violent... But we were hoping to meet somewhere to... discuss our business." He turned back briefly, a flicker of a smile upon his face momentarily. Hopefully that was sufficient and not too unconvincing.

Cerulean blue eyes flicked down to the floor, looking at the barely noticeable footprints that Velerus left behind. The eighteen year old looked up when his ally spoke, catching sight of their raised eyebrows. Riley frowned a little bit, standing up straight again and quickening his pace so that he walked to the side, though slightly behind, the pale skinned man. He kept his head down, eyes narrowing as he looked towards the humanoid, just as he started to speak, explaining his friends.
A small smile came onto his face when Velerus warned him to not be vicious. He couldn't really not be vicious, he couldn't just decide when that weird spirit would come out, or go back in. Riley blinked slowly, wondering what sort of business it was, but he felt too caught up by other things.
He didn't catch the flickered smile on his ally's face when he looked up, eyes flashing amber for a moment before settling back on sapphire. "If I feel... stable enough, I would come with you to your... meeting, but if I feel unstable, even slightly, I'm leaving and going to some barren place on this world, and hold myself in chains," the eighteen year old let a small mischievous grin come upon his face, and added, "I'm joking about the chains. But I will try getting somewhere alone..." Riley frowned a little, looking down ever so slightly, causing the upper half of his face to be covered in shadows. Now that he thought about it, Velerus did act a little... different from other people, and there seemed to be a soft, careful glint in his eyes...
He's been lying to you, I'm going to think about that, actually, so don't you try persuading me to... attack him.
"What do they, your 'friends', look like? I can easily spot people in a crowd..." Riley murmured, looking back up at Velerus, who seemed to be a little further ahead. The eighteen year old merely shrugged to himself, quickening his pace again to walk beside the other male.

(OOC: Ooh, I'm not very good with heights. I'm not really sure, maybe five foot four. Not the tallest person in the world by any means, but not tiny either. I think he's like a dominant, belittling but indeniably charming... femme... fatale. Most of the time. HE'S HIDING IT.)
Velerus could not help but titter, though very much under his breath, at Riley's comment of going and chaining himself up if the need be, then partially taking it back. The words had seemed quite passionate. Did the boy really care for others to that extent - or, almost? How nice. He doubted it a little, somehow. He also had doubts about Riley's allegiance to him, especially how it might become when they met these friends of Velerus'. He did not seem like the type, but there was a possibility Riley could side with them instead.
Now he wanted to know what they looked like. Velerus started. But went straight into explaining. "I... I don't know if they will be together or if there will be more than I anticipated... But there is a fair chance there'll be one, raven-haired, young... looking. Maybe the pointy-ear, also. He is very fair, and slight. "And then there is another. He is pale. His hair... red as sunset. He is... He cut off, sighing, with a slight smile. Hate though there was between them, Velerus could not deny the attraction he felt towards the warrior, and he could not supress the idea that he could feel the same.

((PERFECTO FOR MY EPIC LIL' IDEA. if i can manage to work it in. xD))
Had his eyes not been fixed on his partner's face, he wouldn't have noticed the slight widen of the eyes when the hume had asked what his 'friends' looked like. Riley blinked, looking in front of himself for a moment. Was his darker side telling the truth? Was Velerus lying to him? The black haired male's eyes flickered to his pale skinned ally as he started to explain what they looked like. The eighteen year old listened, taking the advice his other part muttered to him. Listen to the tone, look at his eyes, facial expressions, movements with body, word choice... Riley bit his lip, almost biting into it and causing it to bleed, and he watched Velerus as he described his friends.
One with black hair, that looked young... A fair and slight pointy-ear? What? The Eorzean boy thought of an elf and wondered if his ally meant that. Riley's eyes flickered to amber for a moment, and for a moment his vision went blank, but just for a moment. It returned normal as soon as his ally went on to explain another one. His eyes flicked back to his pale skinned partner's face, and he could feel a bit of small jealousy inside him when he caught the almost loving tone, the sigh, the slight smile. Why did he feel jealous? He looked away, only saying, "Thanks for the description."
Riley stopped suddenly in his steps, his eyes almost narrowed and deep amber. His dark side was out again. And he was annoyed at his... host. His host wasn't doing what he wanted. That Velerus was lying, and Riley knew it, but now the eighteen year old was trying to deny it. As he was slightly further ahead, darker Riley turned around a bit, looking at the pale male, his eyes bright. Then he glanced at the side. Next, he half tackled the other person, pinning them against a tree with teeth slightly bared.
"You're LYING, aren't you?" He was very close, his hands on Velerus' shoulders and pinning him against the treebark. But he didn't know what was making him press his body against the slightly shorter male... Darker Riley growled, both at the person he had pinned and at himself. Then, those amber eyes returned to blue, however they were just a bit darker. Upon realising what he, or rather, his other side did, Riley bit his lip, looking down slightly. Then he suddenly kissed Velerus, though after five seconds, the eighteen had pulled away, shaking out of embarrassment, a pale tint to his cheeks. "I'm s-sorry about that..." he murmured, timidly, stepping back a few steps and turning away, staring down at the floor.
He really couldn't believe he just did that...
((OOOHHH haha. i wonder what velerus' reaction is... very much. xD))

Soon Velerus' mind wandered from the beauty of that red-haired warrior to the cynical thoughts of him and his allies again. How exactly they would... discuss this pressing matter. He almost forgot about the boy walking next to him.
So when he was suddenly thrown against a tree and awakened to the sound of low growling and malicious accusations and the slight internal snapping of the trunk under the force, it was a harsh realisation. His hands automatically went to the boy's throat, but he was restrained somehow and could only grapple futilely at the arms that pinned him there. 'Lying about what?!' he thought, though in his fury only hisses and his own hellish growls escaped his teeth. They were exposed in a fierce snarl. His fingernails dug into Riley's flesh hard enough to pierce it. His eyes flamed lividly. He raised a knee to kick -
But then he was stopped. His fingernails loosened their bruising hold a little. His foot slowly touched the ground again and all sound from him stopped. His first thoughts were of vehement anger that he should have such advances made towards him. By a human! But then, he felt the warmth of his lips against his; the kiss burned into him intensely. His opened his mouth to drink in the scent, so delicious and human now... the moment seemed to last a long time.
But it was not. He did not hear the last words but stood there dazed, his eyes still half-closed. He closed his mouth and recoiled as the smell of the forest crept back in, repungent. Then he stared at Riley with his back turned to him. His form was slightly wavering at the edges with that sense of life, and of heat. He was drawn to it.
Silently he glided along the ground and, standing behind him, he put a hand on his head. It pounded beneath his fingertips. The other hand went to rest gently next to his crotch. He grabbed a fistful of Riley's black hair, curling it in his white fist, pulling his head, downwards, to the side... Exposing his neck. It looked like it gleamed with a beautiful sheen of sweat, of life, every little vein, every little artery inside of him beckoning with a gorgeous and seductive promise. Just under the skin a pulse went. Thump, thump. Thump, thump.
His lips parted, white. "You're pushing your luck."
Then he bit into the flesh.
For him, it was as if a flood of fresh life streamed wonderfully into him, burning beautifully in his throat, running through his chest... The heart throbbed... Across his arms and into his hands, tingling with new-kindled strength... The heart throbbed... Over his stomach, satisfied at last, between his legs, there was a new satisfaction... The heart throbbed... Down, through his entire body. It was the headiest liquor. And most. Gratifying. For a moment the heart stopped, and then resumed, a stuttering pace...
He brought his mouth away from Riley's neck, the boy slightly cold in his arms, but most definately still alive. Velerus bit his bottom lip gently. They had flushed a gorgeous crimson. And he let Riley go. Whether or not he had the strength to stand depended upon his stamina. His willpower, too.
He smiled. "Yes. You're pushing it." And he walked away, into the trees, his ears throbbing with the memory of the drumming heartbeat. His scent would be easy to follow - he would not go far - the boy could find him, if he wished.
(OOC: Ooh! P.S. I know that Riley doesn't have normal blood. I'll get to that bit. And he ain't been drained. Just, er, enough to make him a bit chilly.)

When he pulled away, he could just about see that the other male was half dazed, eyes half open. Riley kept his gaze fixed on the ground, an almost embarrassed look on his face, the pale tint of red still on his cheeks. He felt himself wince, a sudden pain going through his mind though not causing him to make any loud sound or obvious movement. The human's eyes closed, instantly stopping the slight disfocus in sight.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his head, most likely from Velerus. His eyes instantly opened when he felt another hand by his crotch, a gentle touch. A quiet, dull squeak escaped the eighteen year old when his head was jerked to the side, downwards. His teeth bared a bit, a soft growl escaping from him. What the hell was going on?! Riley winced a bit, shivering, hearing the words that his supposed ally spoke.
Then he felt sharp teeth penetrate his skin, and the human just had to let out a loud but strangled yelp. He started shaking, pain in his neck, pain in his chest, pain in his head, and a slight tense of muscles in his lower half of his body, trying to get him to run, attempt to run, but no, he was frozen...
He didn't realise that he was holding his breath. A gasp for air escaped him when those lips, those fangs left his neck. Riley was still frozen, his skin colder than normal. His eyes were wide and a deep blue, their usual sparkle gone. He felt Velerus let go of him, and the eighteen year old immediately sunk to his knees, hands on the floor, back bent slightly. He was still shaking a bit.
Riley heard another few words, then soft footsteps that were dulled by the lushness of the jungle. He coughed, and coughed again, feeling ill. He pulled a hand away from the ground, moving it towards his chest and clutching at his, well supposed-to-be-there heart. It hurt, it hurt so much... Riley bit his lip, wondering why he didn't get the clues. The pale skin, the almost noticeable sharp teeth, the seductive, velvety voice... He should have noticed that Velerus was a vampire, not a human...
A small sob escaped him as he moved his hand up to his neck, clutching at it, flinching, feeling only a few drops of blood there. He was silent for a moment, gritting his teeth in pain as he stared down at the ground. Then, he heard footsteps, nearby, and that was enough to make his eyes widen and jump up, though end up collapsing again. He closed his eyes, biting his lip, hearing the footsteps again. Was it his imagination? Riley sniffed a bit, forcing himself to sit up and look around, his gaze passing over an almost transparent figure who's head was down, leaning against a tree. It shot back to the figure, but he saw nothing.
Then those footsteps again. Riley flinched, paranoid that Velerus was going to come back for him, to drain him of all blood in his body...

Velerus went through the forest in perfect tranquility. He held himself in such a way he seemed overly self-adoring as he felt the new warmth seep swiftly into his skin and through his fingertips. He was now a fair snow beige colour. Lifting his head to the sky, he exhaled at length; glad it was a long, tepid breath, and as he walked, he was happy of the faint crunch his feet made on the verdant floor. He didn't care.
Soon, he came out into a clearing. The ground was mainly lush grass, dappled with sunlight that had broken out at last while they had been under cover of the forest. The pines had given way to little green ash trees. He marvelled at how picturesque it was. Then he smiled, and stepped out into it. The sun was warm on his skin... and he enjoyed it.
"Thankyou, Riley..." he breathed, with a small laugh. The middle of the glade was taken up by a pool of crystal-blue water. A beautiful little waterfall tumbled into it; steam rose from it in humid clouds and the air seemed to hiss, a voice just imploring anyone and everyone who came near to submerse themselves in its waters. Velerus went forward. Once his clothes were off, he sank into the hot spring without even testing the temperature; it was boiling, but it made him shudder with pleasure as the heat enveloped his new body and his red eyes intensified with the liquid that now ran through him.
He relaxed for a while.
Then new thoughts began to occur to him. He actually couldn't believe they hadn't came to him before. Riley had blood.
If he had 'no heart', then that shouldn't have been possible - or at least it wouldn't have been flowing around his body, and therefore it wouldn't have satisfied Velerus earlier. Well, then he thought, Riley must have meant the other heart - the core of himself. The casket of emotions. He remembered his kind being called the 'heartless' ones before - it was a foolish lie. Could Riley be talking nonsense about himself? Or was he just lying? He could do that to make himself a pitiful figure, or as a means of strengthening their union, by forging oaths. But if he wasn't lying, that must change his blood -
Suddenly, his stomach griped. He lurched forwards, hand on his abdomen, and gasped. It twisted again and he cried out in agony. Then the pains increased - they increased in intensity and came faster and faster until his whole body was convulsing. Then, he turned to the side of the spring, and, in one long last spasm, he vomited, violently. It was a dark puddle of blackish indigo, vivid against the light rock. He stared at it incredulously for a long moment, and then shivered, and slipped his upper body back into the water. Looking down, he saw in his reflection, though unclear in the mist, that his skin was almost white again, and that his lips were a bruised, purplish colour. He touched them softly, and was thankful for the clouds of steam that blocked out the sun.
Then he started to feel angry at Riley. That boy with bad blood and no heart. How could he cheat him like this? He gritted his teeth, frustrated with himself, too, because he knew that it wasn't Riley's fault; but he couldn't help but feel resentment to the boy. He took his hand away from his stomach, though it still ached a little, and, for the most part, waited for Riley to follow him.
(OOC: Okay, I have to share this with you. When I started the post I was looking for more words for 'walking', and these were some of the possibilities: Velerus hit the road through the forest Velerus hoofed it through the forest Velerus took a walk through the forest Velerus perambulated through the forest Velerus toddled through the forest...
Sorry, XD)
| In the universe, there are things that are known, and there are things that are unknown. In between, there are doors.
